Phonics and Reading

Since 2015 St. Joseph’s Catholic Infant School has implemented Letters and Sounds as the main Phonic scheme of work. This is supplemented by Read, Write Inc. which also focuses on the development of Phonics. English is still taught on a daily basis and in Year Two, as the children become more accomplished with their Phonics, there is a focus on Spelling and Grammar. Phonics is taught from Nursery through to Year Two and is taught on a daily basis.

The school uses a range of reading schemes and also Bug Club (Spring 2015) so that we extend children's reading into the home using different technology. Library books are available to all children from Nursery through to Year 2.
