Key Stage One
In Key Stage One (Year 1 and Year 2), children build on and consolidate the key aspects of learning from Early Years and progress to applying the skills they have learnt to a range of contexts. They continue to use practical, hands on experiences to develop their understanding in a range of subjects such as using equipment to explore mathematical concepts. As children progress through the year, teaching becomes more structured incorporating a mixture of small focus group work with whole class teaching as well as plenty of opportunities for independent work.
In 2019, Key Stage 1 ranked in the top 20% of schools nationally for Reading, Writing and Maths.
In 2023, our Year 1 phonics pass rate was 95% ensuring that our young readers have mastered the key building blocks at an early age to enable them to become confident , fluent readers.
