Saint Maria Faustyna Kowalska was born in Poland on August 25, 1905. She was the third of 10 children to a poor and religious family. After finishing her schooling, Faustyna, who came form a poor background, became a housekeeper to help her parents and support herself. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy at the age of 20 and appeared as a very ordinary nun working in the kitchens and gardens.
