Phonics Screening Check
St Joseph's uses 'Read, Write Inc' a DfE approved which is a robust systematic approach to teaching phonics as the building blocks to developing confident and proficient readers.
The 'Phonics Screening Check' administered to pupils at the end of Year 1 assess how well the children have learnt all their 'sounds' to help them decode, blend and segment words when reading.
At St Joseph's, we understand that all children are different and some my experience more challenges in reading due to speech and language difficulties or additional learning needs. We support all our pupils to make progress, no matter their starting point.

We are delighted to announce that the pass rate for the Federated Schools of St Joseph's in 2023 was 95%
